A rumour that severe labour shortages are about to shut down St. Marys Cement plant in Bowmanville are untrue, according to the company. Earlier in July, a social media post alleged a concrete plant in Durham was being forced to shut down because there were not enough staff to keep the machinery running in the plant.

A worker at St. Marys Cement in Bowmanville was discovered trapped and removed with 'vital signs absent' in a workplace accident this morning (Tuesday, March 21) at 8:27 a.m. Durham paramedics were dispatched to the 400 Bowmanville Ave. site for the report of a man 'trapped under a large metal object.'. The patient was pulled out at 8:54 a.m.

Canada: St Marys Cement, part of Brazil-based Votoronatim Cimentos, has installed a US$19.9m wet scrubber at its Bowmanville cement plant in Ontario. According to media reports, the worker was found trapped just before 8:30 a.m. and removed with "vital signs absent.". EMS attended the site, located at 400 Bowmanville Ave., and pulled the worker out.
